I started near Guindaruhan National High School, where motorcycle parking was available along the roadside without a parking fee. The trailhead was accessible by concrete road, and private vehicles could reach the area. Public transportation was limited, although habal-habal services were available.

Route Description

I began by walking along a gradually ascending concrete road through Barangay Guindaruhan before passing the small communities of Purok Cacao. From there, the route left the road and followed a narrow footpath descending toward Cutod Falls. Although dense vegetation covered parts of the trail during my visit, I had no difficulty following the route.

After reaching the waterfalls, I continued through the valley on well-established footpaths that local residents regularly used as a shortcut to Guindaruhan proper. The loop then climbed out through Estaka, where I followed a concrete road past more communities before returning to the starting point.

Trail Conditions

The weather remained sunny throughout my hike. Much of the route had limited shade, while the trail stayed dry during my visit. Mobile signal was strong near the start before becoming intermittent farther along the route. I found stores near the communities, encountered mostly local residents, and noticed many insects. Approximately 40% of the route followed trails, while the remaining 60% used concrete roads.

Additional Notes

The trail around Cutod Falls remained well-defined despite the overgrown vegetation in some sections. I also noticed litter around the waterfalls, even though signs reminding visitors not to leave trash were present.

The exploration took place in July 2026 with the goal of verifying a downloaded GPX route that appeared to form a loop around Campagao Peak. I followed the route to a pocket forest with a small residential settlement before deciding to turn back.

After reaching the settlement, I asked several local residents about the continuation of the trail, but the directions I received were inconsistent. One steep trail appeared to continue uphill, although I could not confirm where it led or whether it connected to the intended loop. Rather than continue without verification, I returned by retracing the established Campagao Peak trail.

Based on what I saw, the route may be easier to verify by approaching it from the opposite direction during a future field visit.

The junction where this route branches from the Campagao Peak trail was faint and easy to miss, suggesting that relatively few people use it. A short distance beyond the junction, however, the trail became well-defined. I also noted that another trail may provide direct access to the pocket forest without passing through the Campagao Peak route.

A future visit will require additional time. Dense vegetation and tree cover obscure the footpaths, making it difficult to verify the route using satellite imagery alone.

The route featured rolling climbs and descents instead of one sustained ascent, while the mostly open terrain provided views toward Naga, Minglanilla, and Talisay. Although navigation remained straightforward for most of the hike, the moderate distance and repeated elevation changes made it more physically demanding than a typical beginner trail. I completed this hike in July 2026.

Throughout the hike, I regularly passed signs of everyday community life, even in the quieter sections.

After reaching Campagao Peak, I continued around the loop before descending toward Manduang. Much of the descent followed a long concrete staircase, making navigation straightforward until I returned to the jump-off. I also passed several dogs near homes and gave them plenty of space while walking through the communities.

The weather remained sunny throughout my hike. Most of the route was exposed with limited shade, and the trail stayed dry during my visit. Mobile signal remained available from start to finish, while stores were present along the route near the communities. I mostly encountered local residents rather than other hikers, and insect activity was noticeably higher during this hike.

Additional Notes

Houses and small settlements appeared along much of the route, so I rarely felt far from the community. Farming activity was limited during my visit, although the landscape was clearly agricultural. Some sections had moderate cliff exposure, but vegetation reduced the feeling of exposure while walking.

A hiking stick can also be useful when passing the territorial dogs commonly found along the trail.

Campagao Community Trail is a point-to-point community trail in Manduang, Minglanilla. The documented route passes through rolling hills, farms, and scattered hillside homes, providing early views of Naga, Minglanilla, and Talisay before continuing through a quiet rural landscape where signs of everyday life remain close to the trail.

A small community is located a few meters before Campagao Peak. The documented route reaches this community by way of a long, steep staircase.

Trail Conditions

The hike took place on a cloudy morning. The trail was dry during the documented hike but may become slightly muddy and slippery after rain. Mobile signal was present throughout the hike, although it was intermittent in some sections.

Shade was limited because of the lack of large trees. No stores were observed along the route. Locals were encountered during the hike, and only a few insects were observed.

The trail was well-trodden and easy to follow. Some narrow sections had moderate cliff exposure that was partially concealed by thick vegetation.

Additional Notes

This is a community trail and did not feel isolated. A few cows and dogs were encountered along the route.

Several motorcycles were observed parked near one of the houses in the community before Campagao Peak. However, the access route used by the motorcycles could not be determined. The documented route includes a long, steep staircase leading to the community, which would be difficult for motorcycles to ascend if approached in reverse. This suggests there may be another access route to the community.

Although the distance is relatively short, I dealt with repeated climbs and descents along the way. This was my second attempt from Camp 8, and this time I reached Matun-og Falls.

I parked my motorcycle along the concrete road near the jump-off point, where there was no parking fee. Private vehicles can reach the area, while public transportation is limited. Habal-habal service is also available.

Route Description

From the jump-off point, I immediately started on a short but steep climb toward the top of the mountain. Locals use this trail regularly, so much of the route is well-trodden.

Early in the ascent, I followed a cemented staircase. Some sections were already missing, but the remaining steps made that part of the climb easier.

As I continued, I passed farmland planted with corn and camote. I also saw cows, goats, and a few carabaos along the route.

The trail passes through several local communities, including settlements deeper in the valley. Other sections felt more isolated because dense vegetation blocked much of the surrounding view.

Later, I descended toward the river that feeds Matun-og Falls. That section gave me the most difficulty because of the steep slope and loose surface.

Trail Conditions

The morning was sunny, and it had not rained for several days. I found the trail very dry, with loose soil that became particularly slippery during the descent toward the river. Based on the condition noted for this route, the same trail can become muddy and slippery after rain.

Shade was limited during the hike, and I did not pass any stores along the route. I encountered locals but few insects. Mobile signal was limited or absent in some sections.

There is also a significant section of river trekking before reaching Matun-og Falls. During this hike, the river section was passable, but this part of the route could become dangerous during heavy rain or a sudden rise in water level.

Additional Notes

Most hikers taking this connection travel in the opposite direction, coming from Matun-og Falls and climbing toward Camp 8. On the steep section I descended, climbing would have been easier than going down on the dry, loose soil.

For the exact route I followed, a trekking pole would have helped with the descent. I carried the expectation of needing at least two liters of water because of the limited shade and the repeated climbs and descents.

The terrain remained gentle overall, with gradual elevation changes followed by a longer downhill finish. Navigation was straightforward throughout, and I completed this hike in May 2026.

One of the two river crossings could also become significantly deeper after heavy rain, although a concrete bridge was under construction when I recorded this hike in May 2026.

I began the hike by walking through a man-made forest, which made for a comfortable warm-up before the trail opened into farmland and rolling countryside. From there, I continued across a series of gradual climbs and descents connecting Camp 7, Lubas, Ylaya, and Camp 8. The route remained easy to follow throughout, although the repeated elevation changes gradually added to the effort as the hike progressed.

Later in the hike, longer downhill sections marked much of the return. Even though none of the individual climbs were particularly steep, the combination of distance and continuous rolling terrain made the final kilometers feel more demanding.
