Why this trail is rated Mild
Route Description
The documented loop follows the longer and gentler approach before descending to Cantaling Falls. This section provides easier walking before joining the return route.
An alternative direct route reaches the falls in approximately 2 km via a steep, rocky descent with narrow sections and some cliff-side exposure. Although quicker on the approach, the return requires a sustained uphill climb to the trailhead.
Navigation along the documented route was straightforward, with frequent encounters with other hikers. The primary physical challenge is the final ascent back to the starting point.
Trail Conditions
Conditions during the documented hike were sunny and dry. The trail was dry at the time but can become muddy during rainy weather. Shade coverage alternated between shaded and exposed sections, while stores were available only near local communities.
Mobile signal was strong near the start before disappearing farther along the route. At least 1 liter of water was recommended. Many hikers were encountered during the hike, and insect activity was minimal.
Additional Notes
The direct route to the falls may become inaccessible after heavy rainfall because it requires crossing a river that can swell significantly. Conditions should be assessed before proceeding.
Upon arriving at the jump-off point, local guides, mostly children and teenagers, may offer guiding services to Cantaling Falls. Fees were observed to be negotiable during the documented hike.
Some maps and GPX sources identify the waterfall as Danasan Falls, while recent local usage and hiking content commonly refer to it as Cantaling Falls.
