The Danao City Tourism and Development Office is reminding hikers that completing all five peaks of the Danao City 5 Peaks Eco Trail Circuit in a single day is not recommended or permitted as part of its official hiking activities.

According to the tourism office, the guideline applies regardless of a hiker’s experience level. Officials cited the terrain, elevation, trail conditions, changing weather, and considerable distances between the peaks as safety concerns.

Hikers are encouraged to follow the city’s recommended day-trip itineraries instead of attempting multiple peaks beyond the prescribed route.

The tourism office also recommends booking hikes directly through its office, where registered City Guides are assigned and routes, safety monitoring, and barangay coordination can be arranged.

For hikers planning to explore Danao’s mountain trails, the advisory is a reminder to check the official itinerary before attempting a multi-peak route.

Talisay City authorities are investigating an attempted illegal waste disposal incident in Sitio Tabok Sapa, Barangay Jaclupan, after a contractor and truck driver were intercepted on August 3 while allegedly attempting to dump garbage in the area.

Mayor Samsam Gullas said the City would pursue appropriate cases against those found responsible.

The waste reportedly came from Waterworld Cebu Philippines Corp. On August 7, the resort apologized, saying it learned about the incident through social media and was deeply sorry for the concern it caused.

The incident highlights the importance of proper waste disposal, particularly in Cebu’s upland communities, where illegal dumping can threaten waterways and surrounding natural areas.

Following the July 30 flooding, Cebu City plans to acquire a one-hectare property in the Tisa-Labangon area to serve as a floodwater reservoir while reviewing its 2017 Drainage Master Plan.

City officials said narrowed waterways, garbage-clogged drainage, and increased runoff from upland developments have contributed to flooding in downstream communities. Some natural channels that were once six to 10 feet wide have reportedly narrowed to around three feet, reducing their capacity to carry stormwater during heavy rain.

The proposed reservoir is intended to temporarily store excess rainwater before it reaches flood-prone communities. The City also plans to inspect upland developments to determine whether additional catchment facilities are needed to better manage runoff.

For hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, the announcement serves as a reminder that what happens in Cebu’s uplands can directly affect rivers, road conditions, and communities downstream. Watersheds extend far beyond individual trails, making responsible land use and drainage management important to both public safety and the natural environments.

Fruit trees and useful plants are common along mountain roads and community trails.

Mangoes, guavas, coconuts, malunggay, and other herbs may grow close to the path, sometimes without fences or any visible house nearby.

For hikers coming from the city, seeing fruit still hanging from the tree can be part of the experience.

It is not something seen every day, and even a small guava or mango can become an interesting detail to photograph or include in a hiking video.

Visible Does Not Mean Unowned

A tree beside the trail may appear wild or unattended.

In many cases, however, it was planted by a nearby household, farmer, or landowner. The area around it may not look like a formal farm, but the tree can still be maintained, harvested, or reserved for personal use.

The same applies to malunggay and other plants growing along fences, roadsides, and the edges of private land.

Their owners may not be visible when hikers pass through.

Farmers and residents have other work to do and cannot watch every tree or plant throughout the day. Their absence should not be understood as permission to take something.

Picking Without Asking

Some hiking videos show people picking fruit directly from branches or gathering herbs along the route.

A single fruit may appear insignificant, especially when many others remain on the tree.

The situation changes when a trail becomes popular and several groups begin doing the same thing. What looks harmless when done once can become repeated taking from the same property.

The hiker may pass through only once, but the person who planted the tree or maintains the land continues to live there.

Without clear permission, it is difficult to know whether the fruit is meant for the household, for selling, for feeding animals, or simply for harvesting later.

Looking Without Taking

Fruit trees can still be appreciated without removing anything from them.

During fieldwork, fruit may be photographed, shown in video, or briefly held while it remains attached to the branch.

This captures the experience of encountering it along the route without assuming that it is available to take.

There are also practical reasons not to eat fruit found along the trail. It may be difficult to wash properly, and wild-growing fruit such as guava can sometimes be too small or not yet ready.

The more important reason, however, is respect for the land and the people connected to it.

Passing Through Someone Else’s Space

Many hiking routes pass through farms, residential areas, and working landscapes.

They may feel open because there are no gates, signs, or people standing nearby, but they are not empty spaces.

The trees, plants, fences, water sources, and crops encountered along the route may all be part of someone’s daily life and livelihood.

Hikers are usually only passing through.

Seeing fruit on the tree can be a memorable part of the hike. Leaving it where it is allows the next passerby to see it as well and, more importantly, respects the person who may have planted and cared for it.

Status: Field conditions update

Several temporary waterfalls were observed along Manipis Road in Talisay City on the morning of August 1, 2026, following days of regular rainfall in the uplands.

No major landslide or road blockage was seen during the field check. In previous periods of prolonged rain, some sections of Manipis Road had become impassable due to landslides and fallen debris.

Water was instead flowing heavily from several mountain slopes beside the road. Drainage channels and catchment basins have been constructed in many of these areas, indicating that runoff regularly passes through them during wet weather.

These roadside cascades are normally dry during fair weather but become active after several days of rain as water collected in the mountains flows downhill. Much of the runoff eventually reaches the Mananga River.

The river was also carrying a noticeably stronger flow. While the water level was not exceptionally high, the current was sufficient to cover sections of the riverbed that are normally visible during dry conditions.

Motorists and visitors passing through Manipis Road should remain cautious, as slope conditions and water flow may change quickly when rainfall continues in the uplands.

Status: Temporary safety suspension

All river-related eco-tourism activities in Alegria, Cebu have been temporarily suspended beginning July 31, 2026, according to an advisory from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The suspension will remain in effect until further notice due to prevailing weather conditions that may cause sudden increases in river levels and flash floods. Tourism operators, guides, visitors, and other concerned groups were instructed to comply with the advisory.

The order may affect visits and guided activities around Alegria’s waterfalls, natural pools, rivers, and canyoneering areas. These potentially include Cambais Falls, Cangkalanog Falls, and routes beginning along the Kanlaob and Cancalapi river systems. Some Alegria canyoneering routes continue downstream toward Kawasan Falls in neighboring Badian.

Hikers and outdoor visitors planning routes near rivers, waterfalls, or stream crossings should postpone river-based activities and check official local updates before travelling. Trails that cross waterways may also become unsafe even when rainfall is occurring farther upstream.

The resumption of activities will be announced through the official channels of the Municipal Government of Alegria.

Status: Wildlife conservation update

A total of 162 endangered green sea turtle hatchlings reached the sea after emerging from a protected nest along Alona Beach in Barangay Tawala, Panglao, Bohol. The nest contained 192 eggs and had been monitored for 49 days by environmental personnel and local partners.

The nesting site was monitored by DENR Central Visayas with assistance from local government offices, the Philippine Coast Guard, nearby establishments, and volunteers. Beachfront properties were also asked to reduce artificial lighting and avoid flash photography, as bright lights may disorient hatchlings moving toward the water.

For visitors to Panglao and other coastal areas, the event highlights the importance of keeping nesting sites undisturbed. Artificial lights, crowds, and activity near protected nests may affect hatchlings during their movement from the beach to the sea.

Status: Reforestation and Watershed Notice

The Municipal Government of Oslob has scheduled a public tree-planting activity on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM in Upper Barangay Nueva Caceres. Participants will assemble at the Oslob Municipal Hall Grounds before heading to the site. According to the LGU, the initiative serves as a replacement program for trees cleared for the new Oslob Sports and Cultural Complex, aiming to boost local tree cover, protect watersheds, and prevent soil erosion.

The replacement drive follows public criticism and regulatory action by DENR Region 7, which cited the municipality for cutting 10 trees at the town plaza without prior notice or required permit coordination, prompting CENRO Argao to prepare a cease and desist order. Local heritage advocates and residents had raised alarm over the destruction of mature shade trees in the town core.

For hikers, trail runners, and conservation-minded readers heading through Southern Cebu, reforestation in Upper Nueva Caceres directly impacts the health of the surrounding upland watershed and slope stability. Oslobanons and local eco-advocates interested in supporting municipal tree cover are encouraged to join the early morning activity.

Most hikes documented on beesayatv are loops or out-and-back routes.

These usually return to the same starting point, so habal-habal transport is not normally part of the plan. There are times, however, when a route begins or ends far from regular public transport, or when a planned loop has to be cut short.

In these situations, habal-habal drivers can provide an important connection.

Reaching and Leaving the Trail

Some trailheads are located beyond the last jeepney or bus stop.

A habal-habal ride can reduce long sections of road walking and make remote access points easier to reach. The same applies at the end of a point-to-point hike, where the route may finish in another barangay or along a quiet mountain road.

Drivers who know the area may also help identify local roads, sitios, junctions, and practical pickup points that are not always clear on digital maps.

When the Plan Changes

Not every hike ends as originally planned.

Heat, steep climbs, route-finding delays, slippery conditions, or simple fatigue can make the remaining section of a loop less practical to continue.

When a nearby road provides an earlier exit, a habal-habal ride can bring the hiker back to the starting point, the main road, or the nearest public transport route.

In this situation, the ride is not part of the original plan. It becomes a practical form of relief when continuing on foot would add unnecessary strain.

Because habal-habal transport can support both planned access and unexpected exits, observed motorcycle routes are shown on the beesayatv Trail Atlas.

The layer helps provide context around trailheads, endpoints, and roads that may be useful when a route does not return to its starting point.

The routes shown are based on field observations or actual travel connected to documented hikes.

They do not guarantee that a driver will be available at a particular time, but they show where motorcycle access was observed during fieldwork.

Part of the Route

Habal-habal drivers are often seen only as a way to reach remote places.

For hiking, their role can be broader.

They help connect trails to public transport, support point-to-point routes, and provide a practical way out when a planned loop needs to end early.

Most hikes may never require one, but when the route changes in the mountains, a habal-habal driver can make the return much easier.

The Dahilayan Baby Trail 2026 is scheduled for October 11, 2026 in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Organizers have announced three distance categories for the upcoming event: 42K, 21K, and 10K. Registration has not yet opened, but runners have been advised to wait for the next announcement from the official event page.

The race follows the 2025 edition, which was held on October 19 at Dahilayan Gardens and Resort. That event featured 32K, 18K, and 8K categories, with organizers later reporting more than 800 participants. For 2026, the longest distance increases to 42K, while the other categories move to 21K and 10K.

Further details, including registration fees, race inclusions, cut-off times, the exact starting venue, and route information, have not yet been released. Organizers are expected to publish these when registration officially opens.
